About this place

A sheltered pink-sand cove northeast of Anakena—quieter swimming when seas cooperate.

Ovahe nestles between low cliffs, its sand tinted by crushed coral and shell. Locals sometimes prefer it to bustling Anakena, but there is little infrastructure—plan as a picnic, not a resort day. Swells wrapping the north coast can create sudden surges, so always assess conditions with someone who knows the daily tide.

Beach safety

There are no permanent lifeguards; swim in pairs and avoid alcohol before entering the water. Sharp coral fragments hide in the shallows—water shoes help.

Traveler tips

  • Pack out all trash; there are no bins on the path.
  • Combine with Anakena in one north-shore morning.
  • Sunscreen + shade umbrella = comfort win.
